RIGHTS GRAB: RSPCA

Tucked away in the small print of the RSPCA’s Young Photographer Awards is the clause:

6. The RSPCA shall have the free right to reproduce or exhibit in all media any entrant’s photographs without payment of a fee to the entrant, who will be credited.

Marvelous. It’s always good to see a charity – albeit a charity with an annual turnover of £87million – leading the way in showing how to build up a free-for-use photo library for the cost of just 12 digital cameras.

So what terms would we like to see ? Well, the “free right to reproduce or exhibit in all media any winner’s photographs” would be better, and the “free right to reproduce or exhibit in all media any winner’s photographs only in conjunction with the competition” would be excellent.
