UK's Tim Hetherington wins 2007 World Press PhotoBritish photographer and film-maker Tim Hetherington has won the 51st World Press Photo 2007 Award with a photograph of a US soldier resting in a bunker in Afghanistan. |

Liverpool-born Hetherington, 37, who previous picked up World Press Photo awards in 2000 and 2002 had been on assignment for Vanity Fair when the photographs was taken at “Restrepo” bunker, Korengal Valley, Afghanistan. The bunker was named after a soldier from his platoon who had been recently killed by insurgents.

US-based fashion, portrait and documentary photographer Platon, 38, collected 1st prize in the Single Portraits category for a portrait shot for Time magazine of Russian’s President Vladimir Putin. Vanessa Winship has been awarded the 1st prize in the Portraits Stories category for her work in Eastern Turkey of rural school girls
