The deadline set for entries for The Press Photographer’s Year 2010 gives professional photographers just over two weeks to submit their images via the PPY web site.

The competition organisers have also announced that the PPY paperback will make a welcome return after an absence of one year. The new book, yet to be given a title, will feature this year’s winning entries and the complete edit of the 2009 competition winners.

A dedicated digital film category, and a Vancouver Olympic Games category have been added to the competition in 2010.

Any professional photographer supplying the UK market is eligible to enter. There is a £20 administration fee, which is waived for members of the BPPA. Only images shot from January 1st, 2009 to midnight on February 28th, 2010 qualify. The deadline for entries is April 16th, 2010.

Since the competition was launched in 2006 by Tim Bishop and Dillon Bryden, the number of photographs submitted to The Press Photographer’s Year has risen from around 6,000 to a record 7,877 images in 2009.

An exhibition of the best work submitted by photographers in 2010 will be shown at the National Theatre’s Lyttleton Foyer on London’s South Bank from July 10th, 2010. All entrants to the competition will be invited to the private view and receive a FREE copy of the 2010 paperback book.
