Having concentrated on photographing marine based subjects for editorial and PR clients since 2000, taking my camera underwater seemed a natural extension and in 2004 I began learning to dive with a local diving club.

As part of the BSAC Ocean Diver qualification, which is a very basic introductory diving qualification, a minimum of five open water dives are required. This picture was taken on my second open water dive which was at at Stoney Cove in Leicestershire, a former quarry which is now the National Diving Centre.

I had been underwater with my instructor for about fifteen minutes when I looked up and saw the sun streaming through ripples and a shoal of small fish a few feet above that seemed to be swimming with us. I like this image as I feel it captures the calm beauty and tranquillity that I experienced during that dive and the greenness which is so typical of UK waters.

Annette Price started her photographic career assisting in the West End studio of photographer John Suett in the 1980s, but soon decided to go out and take pictures herself. Her big break came with the Raleigh International organisation which specialises in environmental and adventure projects for young people. This work culminated in a three-month expedition in the jungles of Guyana, South America. Among Annette’s clients are Diver Magazine, Focus magazine, TNT, Outdoor Photography and other photography publications, Ahlan Wasahlan (in-flight magazine) T3, Show House, British Journal of Photography. Also corporate clients including Taylor Woodrow, Westminster City Council, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea council, the British Canoe Union, Arrowcraft, and the Westminster Boating Base.
