This image was made in Cambridge on a wet Sunday afternoon in August 1997 for the Independent. The story was Trinity College had been voted the best college in the city. I had spent a couple of hours shooting a very ordinary set of mainly tourists spending a day out; hardly very good for illustrating an education story. At one point it started raining hard so I took shelter in one of Trinity’s side entrances. As I stood there feeling totally dejected about the whole job, a porter ran for cover, turned and wiped the water from his eye. My day was saved and the story made the front page next day.

Jason took up photography in 1992 after seeing Brian Harris shooting the Suffolk coast in a TV documentary about photojournalism. By 1997 Jason had managed to get regular shifts on The Independent. From that point he shifted for AFP, PA and Reuters in London before moving back to Norwich to cover East Anglia for the national newspapers and PA. Jason now works for a range of newspapers, magazines and corporate clients as well as persuing his own photographic interests. Photographer since 1992. EPUK Member since 2004.
