This picture was part of a commission from Renfrewshire Council in west Scotland. As part of this commission I went out to Bo’ness, near Falkirk and visited the Ian Ballantynes’ Iron Foundry where they cast specialised iron works. Their previous work has included Buckingham Palace and Edinburgh Castle so these guys obviously know their stuff. I spotted the giant vent on the wall and hoped that the light would have moved enough before I left for me to catch a good shot. When I had finished everything I was originally there for I realised that the light had moved and placed Ricky in the middle distance, a shovel in the foreground and fired off a few frames in available light.

Iain McLean worked for 13 years as a professional Imaging Operator at the Herald/Evening Times/Sunday Herald Newspapers in Glasgow. He always had a strong interest in photography so when the chance to take voluntary redundancy arose he jumped at the chance and turned freelance. He finds working life to be a bit ‘feast or famine’ but is continually adding to his client base all the time. Currently his work falls into three main categories: Press, PR and weddings, he particularly loves the variety of work that press photography offers.

Photographer since 2006, EPUK member since 2007.
