This picture was made while I was studying Photojournalism at the International Centre of Photography in New York, during the Halloween Parade in 1999. We were playing with Tri-X at the time and learning all the combinations of developers and so this became my print neg for the darkroom assignments.

The course director suggested I send it to the New York Times Magazine for their “WHAT THEY WERE THINKING” picture column. Unfortunately it didn’t get used but I kept my eye on the column and was eventually featured in 2001. It was a brilliant column and a great venue for street photography.

Paul Treacy is a husband, father, photographer, humourist.
Born in Dublin in ’69, he began working as a professional photographer in ’92. Trained in graphic design, creative writing and photography, he attended the Photojournalism Program at the International Centre of Photography in New York ’99 – ’00. Paul was awarded a bravery medal from the Irish Government in 1991.

He is now living in London and looking for opportunities.
