Saint Valentines day at Westminster Abbey. Sister Angel Popstitute,
having lightly groped me while presenting me with a pack of condoms,
lube and mints, poses with other Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

The Sisters were the most surreal protesters on this march expressing
outrage at Pope Benedict’s support for holocaust deniers, sex abusers
and attacks on equality but at least they weren’t wearing little models
of a man nailed to a plank.

This really wasn’t how I had anticipated my career developing when my
first photo was published in 1963.

David Hoffman sold his first image to the Daily Express in 1963 and was first arrested a few minutes later. He has spent the past 30 years covering news for national newspapers and magazines. In between covering social issues David also shoots for books, PR and corporate clients.
