This photograph of a young ballerina was taken in South Africa in 2007. It was one of several personal projects I undertook during an eight-week trip to the Western Cape. The ballerina was a participant in Dance for All, a charity that helps disadvantaged children with opportunities for enjoyment and empowerment through the medium of dance. It was taken in Gugulethu, a township in Cape Town.
