Here’s a tale which will tug the heartstrings. Trinity Mirror, the UK’s biggest newspaper group whose profits increased by over 20% last year to £253million, has told staff on its five national and 240 regional newspapers that it cannot afford to pay for Christmas parties.
So this Christmas, think of those less fortunate that yourselves, such as Sly Bailey, whose £1million-plus-benefits a year package clearly doesn’t even cover a box of crackers. Rumours that senior journalists on the group’s weekly titles who earn £14,000 a year are considering a whip-round so that Ms Bailey can experience some Christmas joy this year are as yet unconfirmed.
