The 2008 Deutsche Börse photography prize has been awarded to Finnish photographer Esko Männikkö reports Amateur Photographer.
Männikkö won the £30,000 prize for his retrospective ‘Cocktails 1990-2007’ which was shown in Stockholm, Sweden last year.
Brett Rogers, director of The Photographers’ Gallery and chair of the judging panel said –
‘His pictorial risk-taking, combined with his poetic approach to dealing with universal issues such as alienation and identity, greatly impressed the 2008 jury’.
John Davies from the UK was one of the four shortlisted photographers, who each won £3,000.
