Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. It’s sad when that bastion of professional photography, Nikon, gets involved in rights grabs, even an admittedly minor one.
The terms of the Nikon-sponsored Clothesshow Young Fashion Photographer of the Year includes the following rights grab:
Any photograph entered into this competition, Haymarket Exhibitions will acquire all rights for in the use of promoting this competition, now and in the future and the rights to use the winning photograph in future promotion of the competition and event
Apart from the fact that it was clearly drafted by Yoda, we can’t help but wonder from the clumsy phrasing was caused by the first draft having the (entirely reasonable) the right to use the winning photograph in future promotion of the competition and event, and then someone decided that they might as well stake a claim for the rest of the entries as well.
