1700 – Kobi Israel, 2005.
Photographer since 1996, EPUK member since 2006.

This image titled : 1700 (5pm) was selected for exhibition at the Schweppes Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in London in 2003 and was awarded the Judge’s Choice Award at the AOP (Association of Photographers) Open Exhibition the same year. This photo was also featured in many photography and art publications, and limited prints were purchased by established art collectors.

It shows a Tel Aviv fruit stall and is part of my “Fragments of Life” series, which chronicles important moments from my adolescence.

The fruit stand was just as it appears in the photo. I asked one of my friends to stand behind it for ten minutes and I shot a single roll of film to get that image.

I am an impulsive artist. I shoot with my feelings. So, just like my feelings, I explore different areas and subjects that have one thing in common – they are all me, part of my internal world and personal experiences.

Kobi Israel started his love of photography as a flight attendant with the Israeli national airline El Al, and would chronicle the places he landed at whenever the opportunity arose. In 1996 he enrolled at the New York Film Academy, followed by four years at Camera Obscura in Tel Aviv. Kobi splits his time between his freelance work, art projects and shooting travel stock.

Photographer since 1996, EPUK member since 2006.

What is EPUK?

EPUK is an email group for professional editorial photographers who want to talk business. We don’t do techie stuff or in-crowd gossip. We don’t talk cameras or computers. What we talk about are the nuts and bolts of being in business - like copyright, licensing, fees and insurance.
