Basketball - Pete Jenkins, 1992

26 January 2006

This was taken back in 1992 when digital imaging (for me) was very much in its infancy. It was my first satisfying image scanned into my 180C laptop, using my Nikon scanner, (no not the Coolscan, the other one).

I had been asked by the ‘Basketball Association’ to supply some images for an instructional basketball book they were publishing.

About half the pics came from my stock files, the remainder were taken in a gym in the Midlands. No lights, (as such), just fast film, (Fuji 800), and (very) wide aperture lenses. This picture was taken for the cover, and to get it I had to have a scaffold built behind the backboard, and lean out over the top of the hoop – very ‘Heath Robinson’

The book was called ‘Play the game – Basketball’, published in 1992

Formerly a press photographer based in London specialising in Rugby Union, Pete Jenkins now lives in Nottingham and does sedate commissions in the East Midlands area allowing him to have both breakfast and tea at home (in comfort). Photographer since 1976, EPUK member since 2004

What is EPUK?

EPUK is an email group for professional editorial photographers who want to talk business. We don’t do techie stuff or in-crowd gossip. We don’t talk cameras or computers. What we talk about are the nuts and bolts of being in business - like copyright, licensing, fees and insurance.
