Entitled “Dougy does the hair” this image shows Dougy, a Superman impersonator getting ready in the back room of a working mens club in the Midlands.
The photo forms part of a series for a book which comes out next year entitled “Superman’s Pockets”, which features several UK superheroes that I photographed over 2003 and 2004.
I like the fact that it reminds me of the situations I get into as a photographer and that I’m reminded of this when I see the image. Its just the look on his face coupled with the idea that Superman got old and started blow drying his hair, for yet another gig in a seedy joint. I guess its the concept of the image that really floats my boat.
Tim Foster studied a BA Hons in Visual Arts and Culture in the late 1990s, and after a couple of aimless years working outside of photography, he got in at LCP and turned professional after that in 2000.
Since then, Tim has worked for UNICEF in Madagascar, and shot inside Stanley Kubrick’s kitchen for the Swiss Das Magazine.
Tim pursues the work he enjoys rather than the work that makes lots of money, and more recently has turned his hand to film making, setting up a collaboration called Nioute-films.
