I was inside the Memorial Hall in the Sailors Home in Mumbai photographing the architecture and memorial book for my client, The Commonwealth War Graves Commission. We are producing a major book and world touring exhibition for 2007-08, the 90th anniversary of the CWGC.
I opened the dirty window for more light and the rain started, took off the 18mm and put on the 200mm and these street children ran into view. Happy and fun amongst all the terrible conditions they live in.

Brian Harris started his career in 1969 working for local papers and became a staff photographer on The Times in 1976, where he remained until 1984. Then from 1986 until 1999 he was a staff photographer on The Independent, since when he has been freelance. In 1999 he helped to found EPUK.
Brian shoots in the first instance for himself, and if clients like his work that’s a bonus. He shoots editorial, stock and commercial commissions for the more discerning corporate clients.
