Piano Man - Alan Barton, 2006.

Piano Man – Alan Barton, 2006.
Photographer since 1982, EPUK member since 2005.

The picture was taken in London at the home of Peter Holgate who is an accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers to illustrate a story for the their internal news magazine.

The story itself is about Peter playing at a private function at the Ivy whilst Elton John was downstairs having dinner and as part of Peter’s repertoire he played Rocket man.

I had been with another client earlier in the day and had read the tribute to Arnold Newman in The Times in their reception and decided to shoot one shot in a style of his famous portrait of Stravinsky not that I am in his league but for over 20 years have admired his work. Peter was a pleasure to photograph and I shot this towards the end of the session. I converted the file to black and white as I prefer it this way.

Alan has been a professional photographer since 1982. Trained at Blackpool College his first fulltime job was with Sefton Newspapers, and he has worked in news papers ever since before joining Words and Pictures, based in Otley near Leeds, to head up the photographic side of the business in 2004.

Words and Pictures work for a wide variety of commercial and education clients producing internal/external news magazines. Clients are as diverse as PWC, Yorkshire Forward, St Pauls school to inner city Manchester schools – its never dull !

What is EPUK?

EPUK is an email group for professional editorial photographers who want to talk business. We don’t do techie stuff or in-crowd gossip. We don’t talk cameras or computers. What we talk about are the nuts and bolts of being in business - like copyright, licensing, fees and insurance.
