If Mad Max had a camera, it’d look like this

A man, recently freed from prison, spends his time wearing rags, scouting through junk and obsessively taking candid pictures of barely-clad strangers. So far, so Daily Mail. But there’s a lot more to this story.

For a start, it takes place in 1950s Czechoslovakia. The photographs produced remained virtually unknown until last year. But what is the most remarkable aspect of the story is that all the images were taken on a home-made camera constructed from bits of scrap and spectacle lenses found in rubbish dumps.

What is EPUK?

EPUK is an email group for professional editorial photographers who want to talk business. We don’t do techie stuff or in-crowd gossip. We don’t talk cameras or computers. What we talk about are the nuts and bolts of being in business - like copyright, licensing, fees and insurance.
