Corbis Wins $20m

Picture giant Corbis has been awarded $20million dollars in damages for internet copyright infringement reports PDN

The company had filed charges against a number of companies who were accused of downloading images belonging to photographers Corbis represented and re-selling them as their own.

The only catch is that because many of the companies concerned exist only in cyberspace Corbis were only able to deliver writs by email – most of which went unanswered leaving the court at a loss where to deliver details of the judgement and subsequent fine.
