Troubled imaging giant Getty has shocked the photo industry by demanding fees from photographers who want to contribute to it’s picture library reports PDN
In a move that pundits have criticised as a ‘desperate and alienating’ the company which has an archive of 70 million still pictures will now charge $50 per image for consideration for inclusion in it’s library.
According to reporter Darly Lang ‘Getty plans to launch a collection called Lifesize, which is open to all photographers that meet technical and legal standards. Getty will charge photographers $50 to submit each image (or a discount rate of $250 for ten). Photographers may only submit 40 images per year. Submissions will be handled online, and Getty staff will set the prices and write the keywords’.
