A photograph by artist Nan Goldin has been seized by UK police after a complaint that it depicts child pornography reports The Times.

The picture, titled “Klara and Edda Belly-Dancing”, a copy of which can be seen on this website, was on show at the Baltic gallery, Gateshead when it was seized by Northumbria police after the management of the gallery became concerned it may breach child pornography laws.

Goldin is known primarily for her depiction of the lives of her friends and as a chronicler of alcoholics, drug addicts and Aids sufferers.

The picture said to be owned by Elton John depicts two naked girls and is shown within a monograph of Goldin’s works entitled ‘The Devil’s Playground,’ which has been previously exhibited in Houston, London, Madrid, New York, Portugal, Warsaw and Zurich.
