NYT and Silva under fire

The New York Times is under attack from sections of the US media for publishing photographer Joao Silva’s image of an Insurgent sniper firing at US troops.

The paper has been criticised for for describing Silva’s actions as ‘incredible courage’ when some commentators felt that he should have intervened to prevent American casualties.

One commentator suggests that justice would have been better served by Silvar ‘bumrushing the sniper and beating him unconscious with a heavy telephoto lens’.

CBS News reports on the controversy and provides a interesting perspective on the ethics of journalists covering situations where lives are endangered.
