Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Fayed were unlawfully killed by the reckless driving of their chauffeur, Henri Paul, and the paparazzi who chased them, jurors in the inquest into their deaths decided today reports the Guardian.
The majority verdict brings to a close the six-month inquest, which has heard from more than 240 witnesses and is expected to have cost the taxpayer over £10m.
The decision, by a nine-to-two majority, implicates the photographers and press motorcyclists who have mostly been out of the limelight during the months of hearings.
On the night of the crash, a number of paparazzi were held for questioning but in 1999, the photographers were formally cleared of manslaughter charges on publication of the report by Herve Stephan, who headed the French investigation.
