French magazine Paris Match doctored a Reuters photograph of President Nicolas Sarkozy to make him look thinner reports the BBC.

Sarkozy was snapped boating shirtless during his holiday in the US and according to magazine L’Express who received the same set of images a removal of ‘poignees d’amour’ or love handles occurred before going to publication.

When questioned, the editors of Paris-Match, whose parent company is controlled by Sarkozy’s close friend Arnaud Lagardère admitted the accusation but claimed that the adjustment had been merely to correct an anomaly that occurred in the printing process .

But this claim has been questioned by French media pundits who suggest that the President is trying to correct a slide in popularity.
