Stanistreet is new NUJ DGS

Michelle Stanistreet has become the new Deputy General Secretary of the National Union of Journalists following a postal ballot of the union’s membership

Michelle Stanistreet has become the new Deputy General Secretary of the National Union of Journalists following a postal ballot of the union’s membership.

The Express journalist and former union president received 2936 votes, with current Freelance Organiser John Toner receiving 1392 votes.

The two other candidates, Phil Hunt and Chris Youett received 280 and 225 votes respectively.

The role of Deputy General Secretary is the second most senior post in the union’s hierarchy after the General Secretary, and has a salary of £56,664.

Michelle Stanistreet will formally take up the role once the union’s National Executive Committee has endorsed the election result on 24 July.
