Freight promo – Brian Cottam, 2007

25 July 2008

I was asked to come up with a location to place some freight lorries for a multi use PR shot and decided on the Severn Bridge with its striking cables.

It is not a particularly easy thing to set up and I had to give them two days notice to book out the lorries, so I couldn’t actually pick the sky conditions and had to go with what ever it was. We took a couple of crossings to get everything in the right place, and tried shooting on both bridges, but in the end I blended two shots to get the final image they used.

Brian Cottam’s business as a commercial, advertising and pr photographer began around 2000, previously working as a freelance video and lighting camera operator and assisting photographers. His background stems from fine art printmaking in the early 90’s experimenting with mediums such as photo etching and litho but naturally found the draw of photography to be his unfolding career. His work tends to be commissioned by corporate clients who often use his images in magazines articles, trade press and local papers. He has covered a variety of subjects which are mainly involved with advertising and usually involve careful setting up of subjects and lighting.

Photographer since 200, EPUK member since 2007.

What is EPUK?

EPUK is an email group for professional editorial photographers who want to talk business. We don’t do techie stuff or in-crowd gossip. We don’t talk cameras or computers. What we talk about are the nuts and bolts of being in business - like copyright, licensing, fees and insurance.
