Sara Maitland – Martin Hunter, 2008

19 February 2009

Sara Maitland had written a book on silence, based on her experiences in a variety of isolated locations. This picture pretty much got where I wanted to go with the shoot – wild, romantic landscape, theatrically lit.

Keeping my lighting kit under control was a major hassle. It was shot last October for the Guardian Magazine, and was used some weeks later in the Observer.

Martin Hunter started out in the early 1990’s shooting for Scottish broadsheets (Scotland on Sunday/Scotsman/Sunday Herald). Based in Glasgow, he now works entirely for London titles. His work has been published widely and Martin has an extensive client list that includes the Guardian Weekend, Independent Magazine, the Telegraph Magazine, Condé Nast and Discovery Communications.

Photographer since 1993, EPUK member since 1999.

What is EPUK?

EPUK is an email group for professional editorial photographers who want to talk business. We don’t do techie stuff or in-crowd gossip. We don’t talk cameras or computers. What we talk about are the nuts and bolts of being in business - like copyright, licensing, fees and insurance.
