The 6’10” tall Londoner received a scholarship to enroll in St Andrews, a private high school in Delaware in the US (where the Dead Poets Society was filmed), on the basis of his skills as a basketball player.
He quickly became the school’s much-loved star player. Post graduation, Eric joined Duke University, which has the top basketball team in the country, and later transferred to Arizona State University.
After being tested and almost recruited by the Denver Nuggets it appears that he was selected by the Idaho Stampede in the NBA D-League. He is a member of the Great Britain national basketball team.
I photographed him again when he came to New York to play at Madison Square Garden. The Observer Magazine was interested until they “ran out of space.”
This was my first trip ever out of the New York region after I moved to the USA in the autumn of 2004. I loved every bit of it. Everything was absolutely new to me. And that is what I enjoy most about being a photojournalist: finding out and experiencing something new.
Eric was shot on a Canon EOS 1Ds with a 24-70mm 2.8 L lens.
